Recreational Fishing

  1. Recreational fishing provides the opportunity for individuals, groups and families to engage in an outdoor recreational pursuit that they can enjoy regardless of age, with the added bonuses of significant health benefits and opportunities for important social interactions.
  2. Fishing is an activity that is suited to people of almost any age and across a large range of physical abilities. Outdoor nature-based activities provide social, physiological and psychological benefits.
  3. Children find the development of skills and the perceived skill associated with fishing as important motivators for participation. Girls in particular value the support of family and friends, as a result, fewer girls than boys fish alone (Kuehn 2005).
  4. Whether it’s professional, personal, or spiritual, mentoring is often a catalyst for growth and accomplishment. Regardless of the context, mentors offer steady support, hope, wise guidance, experience, and critical encouragement.

Development Skills

Opportunities for youth, veterans and senior citizens to visiting a new place, meeting new people and seeing and understanding the things that makes life worth living :)
What a Pair program is designed to support military personnel and their families, specifically targeting military members who have served our country, by creating an adaptive, (pairing a veteran with a youth) community based outdoor recreation experience through the sport of fishing. Kids will receive a free rod & reel, a tackle box and tackle. We offer large group events and small group events. Some of our events include a one week, all expenses paid fishing trip for a kid and parent.
Numerous studies have shown that traumatic events not only affect the psychological structures of the self, but also the attachment and meaning that link individuals and their families together. This program seeks to restore those disconnects, it allows military members a chance to have social interactions and bond with family members, while enjoying the sport of fishing.

•Restore in the home disconnect by increasing family interaction.
•Support positive social interactions with the civilian world.
•Encourage outdoor recreation as a therapeutic outlet.
•Empower Veterans to advocate for positive self growth and change.

  1. The idea behind his nonprofit is simple, yet brilliant: Take a group of veterans and inner-city kids on fishing trips together. For the veterans, many of whom suffer from PTSD, fly fishing acts as a natural “medicine for the soul,” he says. For the inner-city youth, he brings along, interacting with nature is often a brand new and awe-inspiring experience.

  2. Youth fishing program is designed so children with special needs or learning disabilities and their family members can enjoy a day of fishing. We also have programs for military members and their families. Our goal is to give children, who may not otherwise get the opportunity, a chance to go fishing and enjoy the outdoors. We offer youth fishing trips that everyone will enjoy.

  3. We are set up to give less fortunate kids who may not have the opportunity a chance to go fishing. Many kids would love to go fishing, or enjoy other outdoor activities, but their circumstances may not allow them to. Every kids circumstances may be different. It may be the fact that they don't have anyone to take them fishing, or maybe they come from a broken home and just need a someone to go fishing with. Some inner city kids may not have a place to fish or the means to go fishing. Some of the kids come from orphanages, where they have a disadvantage because they have no one to take them fishing.

“They’re all becoming mentors, and they’re all becoming very educated and very skilled, not only with fly fishing but with understanding the entire environmental aspect of understanding what’s around them, above the water, under the water, and they’re changing their lives.”
